Initial Trailer Idea

07:12

The trailer will be about the internal thoughts of dogs. It would be targeted at family audiences as it would be a family-comedy movie. The trailer would focus more on the concept rather than the story as the audience would need to be introduced to the idea. The trailer would consist of mini humorous individual scenes that each take place in different eras. For example, the modern day and then it would rewind to a dog in a different era - this would give us the chance to edit the trailer artistically (black and white, different filters etc). One idea that we have in particular is a dog confronting an electronic dog from 2000. Another idea that we have is that the film could be released during Christmas time as this is a major release period for family movies. Throughout the trailer, we will use different dogs with different adults that mirror the era that the scene is set in.

However, we may have challenges with this idea. These may be the idea not working, it will be hard to write funny jokes, it may be difficult to get a range of camera shots and we are having to rely on voice acting and behaviour of animals.

Inspiration for this idea has come from the trailers of 'Minions', 'The Secret Life of Pets'  and 'Zootopia'. Minions because they compare modern day and the past, The Secret Life of Pets because the trailer is full of many sketches and Zootopia because it focuses more on the concept rather than the story.

With my further research, I would like to find out whether this idea would actually appeal to the family audience and whether they would accept it as a good idea rather than a silly sketch. I will try to find out this information by carrying out surveys, using focus groups and sharing our blog links around. I will then adapt the idea by changing features based on what the audience wants.

My idea is in partnership with April Atkin
