Legal Responsibilities

06:53

Here are the legal responsibilities we must consider when filming our trailer:

We must make sure that none of the general public are in the background of our film without our consent. This is because they are protected by privacy. We must also make sure that we do not refer to a member of the general public in a way that would lower their reputation.

We should obtain written consent from anyone who is featured on camera

Insurance: As we are students and our project is part of our course then we are covered by our school. However, if we were an actual production company, we would need Public Liability Insurance which would cover the responsibilities of our production. As we are filming in the street, we would need at least £2 million cover. However, it is probably safest to have around £5 million. The size of our production is quite small which suggests that the costs for the insurance would be slightly lower.

Minimum Wage: If we were paying our talent, then we would need to make sure we meet National Minimum Wage requirements

Some of the actors in our film are of school age which means that all of the actors would need a child performance license

Buildings are protected by copyright. However, if you are filming a building, under section 62 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, it says that you can do say without having to ask the owner for permission.

All of the actors will also have to sign a contributor's release form - this gives us the rights to use our performers in our films and marketing

The contract must also include 'Terms of Engagement' which would state how many days the actor would be filming for

As our film is about murders and will include many screams and loud noises. We have decided to insert the screams at a later date rather than on set so the general public are not disturbed and do not think that something serious has actually occurred

We would also have to carry out a risk assessment to analyse any of the risks that may occur on set.

We must also create a system for managing health and safety. We would have to regularly review this system to make sure that the risk is consistently being managed well.
